DAMA announces the II DAMA Lola Salvador Screenplay Award, endowed with €30,000
The organisation awards a runner-up prize of €10,000 for the finalist script.
The name of the award pays tribute to one of the most outstanding scriptwriters in Spanish television and film and founder of DAMA.
DAMA, the copyright management organisation for audiovisual creators, today announced the second edition of the DAMA Lola Salvador Screenplay Award (Premio DAMA de Guion Lola Salvador), with a prize of €30,000 for the winning work and a runner-up prize of €10,000 for the finalist script.
“The name of the award pays tribute to one of the most important screenwriters in the history of the Spanish cinema and television,” says Virginia Yagüe, president of DAMA. “Lola Salvador is an example of an author with capital letters. Her rigour, freedom and overflowing imagination are already part of the history of cinema in this country as well as (and are) an obligatory reference for current proposals that speak of a rich and plural audiovisual. Lola has also been characterised by her fierce defence of our rights in authorship and, therefore, we could not find a better name to consolidate the prize with the largest financial endowment in the country, thus highlighting the importance of writing as a fundamental axis in our professional activity. With this award, DAMA ratifies its firm commitment to support audiovisual creation and its explicit recognition of scriptwriting professionals”, adds Yagüe.
The second edition of the DAMA Lola Salvador Screenwriting Award is open to both professional and novice screenwriters of any nationality. The scripts have to be original, unpublished and for fiction feature films, and may be written in any of the official languages of Spain. At the time of submission, the work must be finished and ready to be made into a film.
In order to ensure equal conditions for all participants, applications must be submitted anonymously, and each participant may submit a maximum of one script per call for entries. The deadline for entries is 30th March until 3rd May 2023.
The winning project, chosen by a jury made up of renowned professionals in the audiovisual sector, will be announced at a public event to be held in September.
In the first edition of this award, the jury made up of Alauda Ruiz de Azúa, Alejandro Hernández and Marina Parés awarded first prize to ‘La Dote’, a project by Alejandro Andrade. Rosa Cabrera and Raúl Mancilla were finalists with the script for ‘Las recoveras’ and were awarded the runner-up prize, which they received together with Andrade at the 70th San Sebastián Festival.
