DAMA hosts a summit meeting in Madrid of CISAC, the international confederation of societies of authors and composers
This week, DAMA, Spain’s leading company handling rights management for audiovisual authors, is hosting the annual meeting of the Technical Commission of Dramatic, Literary and Audiovisual Works from CISAC, the international confederation of societies of authors and composers. This institution currently has 239 members in 122 countries.
On November 14 and 15, technicians from around the world who work in rights management and collections for authors will focus on improving collection and distribution systems, which will benefit authors. The summit meeting will be inaugurated with brief speeches by Borja Cobeaga, the President of DAMA, and Adriana Moscoso, the General Director of Cultural Industries and Cooperation, and will deal with matters such as the tax implications of processing rights payments and application of new European directives.
At the same time, and taking advantage of the meeting of this Technical Commission from CISAC, on Wednesday, November 13, the management committee from IDA, International Documentation on Audiovisual Works, the international and centralized database that facilitates the identification of audiovisual works and rights owners, will also meet. Additionally, two technical delegations on authors rights from China and Brazil will work in Madrid next week, with advice and backing from DAMA, to perfect their respective collection and distribution systems.
In 2018, DAMA’s collections reached 16 million euros, and it expects to exceed 20 million euros, an increase of over 25%, by the close of 2019. It currently has more than 1,500 members and, additionally, Spain is in charge of rights management for 37 companies throughout the world, including France, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Argentina, South Korea and Japan.
