DAMA announces the second edition of the Second Version Laboratory, the audiovisual creation incubator for authors over the age of 50
The initiative is supported and financed by the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts (ICAA), the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan and the European Next Generation funds.
The selected creators will attend a training and tutoring programme, in which they will develop an audiovisual fiction script for a feature film, series or miniseries. At the end of the process, they will have the opportunity to present their projects to the industry at contests and festivals.
DAMA presents the second edition of Second Version Laboratory (Laboratorio Segunda Versión), the first national audiovisual creation laboratory aimed at creators over the age of 50.
With funding from the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts (ICAA), the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan and the European Next Generation funds, the management entity is promoting this programme, which aims to generate new opportunities for authors and support professionals in the audiovisual sector.
The call will be open to any topic and six participants will be selected based on criteria of parity, territoriality and capacity building. Projects related to some of the goals of the 2030 Diary(gender, ethnic, intergenerational, religious, sexual diversity; environmental sustainability and responsibility; inter and multiculturalism; rural areas, humanitarian aid, reduction of social differences, awareness of alcohol and drug consumption and the use of social networks) will be valued.
The deadline for receipt of projects will be from 5th September to 2nd October 2023 through the DAMA website, where the legal bases can also be consulted.
Second Version Laboratory, offers a complete training and tutoring programme for the development of an audiovisual fiction script for a feature film, series or miniseries throughout all its phases: from an initial synopsis to a complete first version. The laboratory has a financial support of €6,000 for each participant.
In addition, through specific workshops, those selected will receive training in areas such as environmental sustainability, diversity and direction of performers.
The programme will culminate in specific training in promotional techniques, as well as the development of a marketing strategy and the creation of promotional materials for the project. At the end of the process, creators will have the opportunity to present their work to industry representatives at prestigious national competitions and festivals.
In the first edition, a total of 163 projects were received, of which 60% were male and 40% female. Almost 45% of the projects received came from authors living in towns with less than 100,000 inhabitants. In terms of age, 51% of the candidates were between 53 and 61 years old.
The participants of the first edition of the incubator, Carmen Fernández Villalba (‘Scoop’), María Hervera (‘Serviam’) and Marciano Menéndez Aizpurua (‘El montaje’) presented their series projects at Conecta Fiction & Entertainment, the international series co-production and networking event. For their part, Iñaki Alforja (‘La sima’), Pilar Gutiérrez Aguado (‘Cuartos compartidos’) and Ione Hernández (‘Maren en tres tiempos’) attended the Atlàntida Mallorca Film Fest, where they presented their feature film projects.
All in all, with the call for the second edition of the Second Version Laboratory, DAMA reinforces its commitment to encourage the development and promotion of creative talent, supporting with it new perspectives in the Spanish audiovisual sector.
